GEM 2026 – Tenerife, Spain. 31 AUGUST – 5 SEPTEMBER

DESCRIPTION

The GEM-SILKWAY is an international project, now involving more than 17 partners all over the word. In the process of energy transition, reflection on issues of public concern that affect cultures and societies at the global level are needed.

The 2026 GEM-SILKWAY summer school Canary Islands Edition will be hosted by the Universidad de La Laguna located in the Canary Islands (Spain).

The aim is to adopt a cross-cultural perspective in analysing concepts like sustainability and human development. Energy transition is a global issue, debated from geographic, cultural, social, economic, and technological perspectives. The Summer School brings together academics, professionals, and institutional representatives to foster interdisciplinary and intercultural dialogue. An introductory broad overview of the world green energy scenario will be followed by specific experiences in Spain, Portugal and in the Central Asia area. It focuses on energy efficiency, particularly in the context Europe. Students will benefit from lectures, debates with international scholars, cultural activities, and site visits. The program is updated annually to reflect the latest innovations and developments.

A visit to local renewable plants in Tenerife will be organized.
